Eurostar trains leave from St Pancras International, next to King's Cross, and arrive at Paris Gare du Nord. Unlike a domestic train, you clear security and border control before boarding, so you need to be at the station well before departure.
These tips apply to every day trip on this site, guided or not.
The quick answer
Be at St Pancras by your check-in time (6:00 am on the Premium Tours day, 5:30 am on Saturdays), with a valid passport for every traveller. The EU Entry/Exit System has been fully running since 10 April 2026 and registers non-EU visitors at the station; ETIAS is not in operation yet. The fastest train takes about 2 hours 16 minutes, and Paris is one hour ahead.
What time do you need to be at St Pancras?
At your tour's check-in time: 6:00 am on weekdays and 5:30 am on Saturdays for the Premium Tours day trips.
The unescorted Evan Evans packages ask you to check in at 5:30 am (5:00 am on Saturdays). Guided groups go through security and passport control together, so a late arrival can cost you the train. There is no hotel pickup on any of these tours.

Check dates for the Eiffel Tower lunch day tripDo you need a passport for a Eurostar day trip?
Yes, a valid passport for every traveller, and you must check your own visa requirements.
The operators check passports at the check-in desk, and you pass UK exit and French entry controls at St Pancras before boarding, then the reverse at Gare du Nord. Not British or Irish? If you entered the UK on an Electronic Travel Authorisation (£20), it must still be valid for the train back into Britain.

What is the EU Entry/Exit System (EES)?
A digital border record for non-EU visitors, British travellers included, fully operational since 10 April 2026 and replacing passport stamps.
On your first crossing you give fingerprints and a facial photo at the border. Eurostar says registration is free, there is nothing to apply for in advance, and it all happens at your departure station on the day, for travellers of every age. It can add time at St Pancras, which is one more reason to arrive at the check-in time and not later.
Do you need ETIAS for Paris?
Not yet: ETIAS, the EU's online travel authorisation for visa-free visitors, is not in operation, and you cannot apply for it.
In July 2026 the EU dropped its earlier last-quarter-2026 target; the official ETIAS site now says only that the system is not running and that the start date will be announced months in advance. Ignore websites that offer to file an ETIAS for a fee.
Which Eurostar class should you choose?
Standard is fine for a day trip; Plus adds extra legroom and a light meal, which helps on a 6 am start.
On the flagship tour you pick the class through the option: Tour & Lunch (Plus Class) gives you Eurostar Plus seats. Eurostar's third class, Premier, adds lounge access and a meal, and is not part of these day trips.

Want a light meal on the early train? The Plus Class lunch option adds Eurostar Plus seats.
Explore the Eiffel Tower lunch day tripWhat if the Eurostar is late?
Your Paris time shrinks, and free time is the first thing to go.
One September 2026 guest reports a 2.5-hour delay that left the day rushed. Golden Tours' listing states it has no liability for Eurostar delays beyond its control. Keep your guide's contact details and be at the return meeting point on time.

What can you take on board?
Bring a small bag: you carry it all day, and lunch guests have it checked twice at the Eiffel Tower.
Pack your passport, a light layer for the cruise deck, a phone charger, euros or a card, and snacks for the early train if you are not in Plus. Unlike an airport, Eurostar sets no strict liquid limits, so a full water bottle is fine on the train. Lunch guests have their bag checked twice at the tower, so keep it small.
How does the return journey work?
The group meets at a set time and goes to Gare du Nord together, or you make your own way there on the independent packages.
Return trains are usually at 7:00 or 8:00 pm, and the unescorted Evan Evans packages ask you to check in at Gare du Nord at 7:00 pm. On the Golden Tours day with a lunch cruise, guiding ends after lunch and you make your own way back.

How early should I get to St Pancras?
Be there by your tour's check-in time: 6:00 am weekdays, 5:30 am Saturdays on Premium Tours, and 5:30 am (5:00 am Saturdays) on the Evan Evans packages.
Is the time different in Paris?
Yes, Paris is one hour ahead of London.
Can I travel with an ID card instead of a passport?
Not usually. Eurostar says EU, EEA and Swiss citizens need a valid passport to enter the UK, unless they live in the UK with settled or pre-settled status. The tours also ask every traveller to carry a passport.
